85 was my football number when I walked onto the football team as a junior at Baylor University. I was sixth string, undersized, and dressed in the freshman locker room. I overcame those obstacles that spring and was fortunate to start my senior year. I learned to overcome it, marking the rest of my life. As a family, we have adopted 85 as our reminder that we will overcome life’s challenges.

What matters most often lies on the other side of the challenges we face in life. Overcoming obstacles not only drives personal growth but inspires others around us. It's a testament to our ability to endure, adapt, and evolve. The journey through these obstacles provides us with valuable life lessons, builds our empathy for others who may encounter similar challenges, and gives us a unique perspective on life. The strength and determination gained from overcoming obstacles are invaluable traits that lead us toward success and fulfillment, helping us lead a life of purpose, meaning, and impact.

Our family has learned in previous generations that overcoming obstacles is an integral part of life that adds depth, builds character, and shapes our paths. Whether in my great grandparents coming to a new country without language, education, or resources, or more recent generations who have overcome various kinds of personal, family, and health challenges, it is through facing these difficulties that we grow stronger, learn to persevere, and develop the grit needed to achieve our most important goals.
